My Intro
Hey guys and girls, just thought that an introduction was probably long over due. Also going to take this opportunity to clear up what I see as a a bit of confusion that many of you might have.
I'm in my late 20's, have been exploring Parkour since October 2008, training seriously and running reguar groups since July 2009. I'm a Youth Development Officer running the DETOUR program at Lifeline Community Care North Queensland, which is relevent here because a lot of the Parkour workshops, classes and opportunities that you have on offer are only available because of the support of Lifeline and it's various partners. My job is to Develop Today's Youth for Tomorrow. We do leadership, self development and all kinds of workshops and courses, all using Parkour to deliver the message.
On top of my work (I'm now running at least 13 workshops every week) I also train with friends and collegues regularly as well. I travelled to Brisbane and had an absolute blast training with people from all over Australia at this years National Jam. I've met and become friends with other trainers from all over the world. I've become stronger, faster and more useful.
Just to be really clear (I've seen a few posts where people seem confused and are either asking me about things I'm not part of or asking others about stuff I'm doing) I'm going to try to explain a few things. Josh (Shadow) runs this site, I'm just a member like everyone else. Parkour isn't owned by anyone, it's for everyone. Monday afternoons at Upper Ross PCYC, Thursday afternoons at the Townsville West Parks and any of the School Holiday Jams are run by the DETOUR program staff (Generally myself, Hartley and Kurt). We aren't experts at Parkour (I think only Spider Monkey comes close in Townsville) but we have put a lot of time and effort into developing our skills and we are eagre to share our knowledge with others. Parkour jams that Josh organises are supported by Josh out of the goodness of his heart in the true spirit of Parkour and are not affiliated with DETOUR or Lifeline in any way. Parkour is taking off around the world, Townsville is no different. If anything Parkour growth is faster in Townsville due to the support of local organisations and local Parkour leaders. If you are interested in being a Parkour Future Leader and are over 14 years old and are willing to put in what it takes then get in touch with me and I can assist to make that happen. Already we have 3 young people who are well on their way to being Future Leaders, having completed special training and had experience in running groups etc. This year saw a lot of growth in Parkour, next year will be bigger and more exciting I guarantee it
I'm Dave, I'll be around. If you want some advice, I'm happy to give it and you only have to ask. Train hard, train often, be strong, be usefull.

Re: My Intro
Skate shoes should be alright. Providing you tie them up. I know it looks stupid. But if they're not, when you go for say a cat leap, they might fall off.
Out of interest, how'd you break your sneakers?

Re: My Intro
No worries man i ended up getting 'stuck' out aitkenvale anyways =/
Next monday sounds good, few drinks afterward's ?
Skate shoes 'Can' be used for training ( as thats what i had to wear ) but you might be better off going bear foot & get to know your body a bit better.
( i'm into nudism & have trained with nothing on before & it feel awesome lol )
But yeah there 'ok' but for precisions/ catleaps & balanceing they might put you off a bit.

Re: My Intro
whatever feels good
It's kinds in between training & mucking around. It's fun, but will also make you sweat
You'll defiantly learn a thing or 10

Re: My Intro
This Monday comming is the last week at PCYC (we only run Monday Classes during the school term). We'll be doing fitness testing and then a bare foot session so you don't even have to bring your shoes man.
See you Monday.
See you Monday.

All good.
If you want to be REALLY technical it is the week after next. Because it's on a Sunday. And because, Technically, Sunday is the start of the week. Yeah...
